Considering a Restaurant?
When most couples start planning their wedding, the venue search usually goes something like this: banquet halls, barns, hotels, country clubs… rinse and repeat. Restaurant weddings often get skipped entirely, not because they’re a bad option, but because they’re misunderstood. And honestly, boooooo!!
Restaurant weddings are intimate, stylish, and wildly underrated. If you care about atmosphere, guest experience, and a day that actually feels like you, this might be the venue category you didn’t realize you were looking for. (And always have great food!!!! Ask me about the 2017 wedding hall chicken fiasco, I will NEVER order chicken again anywhere but a restaurant.)
Okay.... so let’s talk about why restaurant weddings are so often overlooked and why they absolutely deserve a spot on your shortlist.... beyond the chicken.
Why Restaurant Weddings Get Overlooked
1. People Assume They’re “Too Small”
Many couples automatically think restaurants can’t host a real wedding and they are ideal for only micro-weddings or elopements. While it’s true that restaurants aren’t designed for 200+ guest lists, that’s not a flaw, it’s a feature. They are intimate, it feels intentional!! Restaurants are ideal for weddings in the 20–80 guest range, where you can actually spend time with everyone, share a meal, and create a warm, connected experience.
2. Couples Worry About Logistics
Tables? Timelines? Dancing? People assume restaurants are inflexible. In reality, many restaurants already host private events regularly and as an automation nerd, I love that many restaurants have streamlined client management systems for SOOOOO many things:
Custom menus
Cocktail-style or seated dinners
Built-in bar service
Coordinating with vendors
BONUS: You’re often working with an experienced events team instead of starting from scratch!
3. They’re Not Marketed as “Wedding Venues”
Restaurants don’t always show up on traditional wedding venue lists, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t incredible spaces. Some of the most beautiful weddings I’ve photographed haven't happened in “wedding venues” at all.
Why You Should Consider a Restaurant Wedding
1. The Food Is Memorable!
Let’s be real: guests remember the food.
Restaurant weddings deliver:
- Thoughtfully crafted menus
- Locally inspired ingredients
- Properly cooked, beautifully plated meals
Instead of banquet chicken, your guests are talking about that beef prime rib, that tiramisu, and that custom cocktail months later.
2. Built-In Design and Atmosphere
Restaurants already know how to set a mood.
From lighting and textures to furniture and flow, you’re starting with a space that’s already designed to feel good. That often means:
- Less decor needed
- A cohesive aesthetic
- A space that photographs beautifully without effort
3. Fewer Vendors, Less Stress
Most restaurants include:
- Tables, chairs, linens
- Plates, glassware, cutlery
- Bar staff and servers
That’s a huge win for couples who want a lower-stress planning experience and fewer moving parts.
4. Intimate, Elevated Guest Experience
Restaurant weddings feel intentional. Guests aren’t shuffled through a massive space, they’re welcomed into an experience that feels curated, cozy, and personal. Conversations flow and most importantly, the timeline feels relaxed.
